Season’s greetings, my lovely readers. I’ve been getting into the Christmas spirit the past few days. I wonder if it has anything to do with a certain amount of time off just around the corner… Anyway, I attended a lovely Christmas drinks reception with the Westminster Collection of venues last night at One Great George Street and it was just fab.

The venue features a very impressive entrance and the party was held in the Smeaton Room with its stunning wood panel walls and high ceilings. I managed to persuade somebody to give me a small tour despite how busy the venue was and got to see the Great Hall. It’s a stunning, massive space and it looks like the perfect backdrop for a grand Victorian ball.

As there were representatives from other TWC venues at the party, I got to hear some juicy details on strange requests they’ve had for past events. One remembers an occasion when the client was trying to work out the logistics of getting a car into the building and up to the first floor. Can you imagine the work involved? Never mind the concept of risking a mark on any beautiful floors. It must have been a man’s idea…

A couple of the others told me about some risqué requests, including one client who had a male and a female dancer present. Since the venue didn’t have a license for stripping, the girl could only do half her dance, severely disappointing the male executives in attendance but the guy managed to get down to his g-string, much to the joy of the female guests. Sounds like my kind of party!
